A small chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Secours, invoked by the bargemen of the Loire, stood in the ancient suburb of Avenum, supported by the fortified enclosure of the Lower Roman Empire. It was leaning against the 14th century wall which passed by the site of the present altar. During the construction of the great wall of Orléans (the present boulevards), the land freed up was given for the construction of a larger church, completed in 1519. Built, it was modified and rebuilt several times, especially after the Wars of Religion. However, the reconstruction began quickly, as the church was returned to worship in 1594. During the Revolution, part of the furniture was dispersed. It was restored in the second half of the 19th century.
